Tom Klarquist M.D.
Dr. Klarquist received his undergraduate degree
from Western Michigan University graduating
magna cum laude with a BS in Biology.
He received his MD from Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. He was a member of the College's Upper Peninsula Medical Education Program. This program, open to only 5 percent of each class, emphasized patient interaction skills and included expanded training in interviewing and examining skills.
He did his internship in Internal Medicine at the
University of Louisville (Louisville, Kentucky)
where he was named one of the "Outstanding Interns of 1987-88". He completed his residency at Michigan State University at the Kalamazoo campus comprised of Borgess and Bronson Hospitals.
Dr. Klarquist's first position post residency in
1990 was with FHP in Los Angeles California.
During his tenure with FHP (second largest HMO in California at that time), Dr. Klarquist served as the region's Chairman of Medicine over 75 primary care and speciality physicians. He also served as a
primary care physician at the Long Beach Senior
Center and in 1992, he founded one of the first
in-patient specialty groups in the nation.
In 1996, he took a position as Medical Director of
the Humana Health Plan in Tampa Florida. In the
ensuing three years, Dr. Klarquist helped develop
health improvement programs for Congestive Heart Failure, Diabetes, and Coronary Heart Disease. He also served as chairman of the Peer Review, Credentials, and Utilization Review committees.
Dr. Klarquist returned to full time clinical medicine in 1999 on his move to Chicago. Joining IPC--The
Hospitalist Company, he worked as an inpatient
specialist at St. Joseph Hospital and Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Given his experience in the field, Dr. Klarquist also travelled to other IPC sites (Tucson, Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, and St. Louis) to train other hospitalists.
2001 offered Dr. Klarquist a golden opportunity
to achieve his career dream of setting up his
own private practice. The generosity of
chiropractor Dr. Sean Comerford allowed him to join the office of Chicagoland Comprehensive Care in Chicago's Loop. In 2004, due to the growth of the
practice, he joined Drs. Stotts and Beverlin at Millennium Wellness Group at a new office though remaining at the same intersection of Wabash and Washington.
In June 2011, Dr. Klarquist started a new chapter by joining Drs. Carlson and Litoff at Advocate Medical Group Millennium Park. Located on the 17th floor of the same building he has been at for the past 7 years, Dr. Klarquist is excited about the new services available at his new location.
